“I have an innate interest in analytical work”
My scientific background gives my practice a certain depth, which is something I cherish. But I deliberately chose practice over science. I am mainly a lawyer, a lawyer who likes to work with people. Letting go is not always easy. In my spare time I like to do research. Is that scientific interest? Yes, but it is mainly about the practical use of my knowledge.
Edith Van den Akker has been working as a lawyer since 1998 and specialises in liability law, insurance law, and contract law. She is co-author of the book “Informatieplichten van Dienstverleners” (“Information obligations of service providers”- 1999) and obtained her Ph.D. in 2001 for her dissertation “‘Beroepsaansprakelijkheid ten opzichte van derden” (“Professional liability towards third parties”). From 1998 to 2003 she worked at Houthoff Buruma in Rotterdam in the areas of insurance law and construction law. She has been affiliated with Yspeert since 2004, where she focuses on (complex) liability issues. Her long-term litigation experience enables her to provide adequate advice and guidance.
Internally, she is jointly responsible for the training of lawyers and junior associates.
